Are electric cars always slow, planet-saving vehicles? Not necessarily. Contributor Ezra Dyer recently pitted a Tesla Model S electric sedan against one of Germany’s hottest performance four-doors — the 2013 BMW M5 — in an impromptu drag race, and the result was closer than anyone expected.
I won’t spoil the result, but maybe you can guess by the fact that I’m blogging about it.
Edited to add: During last week’s debate, Mitt Romney made a point to call out Tesla as an example of the Obama administration’s fraud and waste. The reality is that an investment in Tesla is an investment in the future of the American auto manufacturing business (not that Romney’s ever cared much for that). The most innovative, most energy-efficient, coolest cars in the world are being designed and built in America today because of the federal government’s help. Only a guy like Mitt Romney could find a problem with that.
If I have to buy another car someday, it will be this.
At least, I hope so.
