Paper Pushing

Because I want to support good journalism, especially on the web, I decided to subscribe to the New York Times. It costs $35 per month to subscribe to “All Digital Access.” That seemed pretty expensive, and I noticed a little promotion in the sidebar telling me that I could get the same access for free with a print subscription. It costs $14.80 per month to get the weekday edition delivered to your house, and they throw in online access for free. The only problem is that home delivery isn’t available in the area where I live. So now my friend John is going to get the Times delivered to his house, and I get a $240 per year discount on my digital subscription as a result.

The New York Times is a really smart paper, but that’s really dumb business.
